I am thinkin of putting a fire pit in my garden and im lookin for advice if anybody can help?
Can I put it on the patio or have i to break through the patio.
Are there any restrictions or regulations?
please help me

Hi Mike, is it a store bought fire pit you have or are you planning on making one out of stone and cement. If you are building one, I think you are better off breaking through the patio. The advantages of this are, firstly it will look allot better, also breaking through the patio will help with drainage so that it doesn't turn into a murky water feature.

| Also take time to consider the placement of you pit, and be sure to keep it at least 20ft away from the house and any other structures or fire hazards. You also dont want the smoke blowing directly into your house.

| hi sunny thanks a bunch for ur advice. iv already taken out 4 patio slabs and dug down about 3 foot.my plan is 2 put a base of pebbels covered with a layer of sand and concrete the sides back up with a sturdy grill on top so i can place the slabs back on the grill when there is no fire.i am gud with the distance from the house and hazards.do you think that would be a sound plan

Presume your next project will be a fulach fia?
You should scoot over to Cregganowen Castle in Clare for a look at how it was done 2000 years ago. You could be there in an hour via O'Brien's Bridge. I was living in that area when they built the crannóg over the lake with a 'barbie' inside a straw house with no chimneys and no windows. Half the critics said they'd choke the inhabitants, the other half said they'd burn the thatch.
BTW, you should share with your readers how the fire-pit works. I'm presuming it's not just a street level barbecue but the real mccoy?
