Does anyone have any advice about what course a young friend (aged 25 ) should follow in order to get training and experience which would enable him to eventually set up his own design/ landscaping/gardening business ?
I have heard good things about the course in the Botanic Gardens......are there any others?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Theres a 1 year certificate course at Kildalton college, Piltown, Co. Kilkenny. Completion of this course allows transfer into year 2 of the degree course in horticulture run at Waterford institute of technology which is a 3 year course. Alternatively you could enter the 1st year of the degree course. The CAO points are 215 i believe. The certificate course tends to be more informative and hands on. This course has specialist elective subjects such as:
nursery stock, landscape design, greenkeeping and garden centre operations.

Just to inform you that the 3rd year of the course is very business orientated and can get a little tedious at times, but is necessary for setting up your business.
