Hi David, welcome to the site. Not being an exotic gardener myself ( in any sense of the word! ) I am intrigued as to why you choose to grow plants that are so obviously not naturally at home in our sort of climate ? Do you just love the plants themselves or do you need a challenge? |

Hi All thanks for your replys.Sive its no challange, these plants grow quiet well here.people think palms just grow in hot countrys, but there is exotics that are hardy to -13c and more, there is a hole range of palms hardy to -8c.Even cordylines which look like palm trees and are all over the country are native to new zealand and so are phormiums which are now very commen in ireland. |

It just shows you how little I know about those plants! I was thinking of a couple of "exotic" gardens that have been featured on BBC gardening programmes, where the owners would explain how they had to wrap certain plants in fleece and transfer others into a greenhouse in the winter. It all sounded quite exhausting ! |

sive, it can be like that when its realy cold, but luckely we get milder winters than england, this year has been the coldest winter in years and all mine sailed through, just fleecing them twice,on the coldest nights,i brought nothing inside.Palms are evergreen and give a great summer tropical look even in our deepest winter. |

Hi David.. I've got 2 Yucca's in my front hall. Bought them about 2 years ago and they were approx. 8 inches high. I just measured them (cos I've nothing better to do) and they are now 3 foot and have expanded outwards more than upwards. They have gone from having about 20 stems each to approx. 100. I put the general plant house feed on them (the granuals) about 6 months ago and they just exploded... _________________ Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.
