| H guys i have a tree related query.I recently planted about 70 mountain ash and 70 birch trees(all about 20 ft tall so they are about 6 to 7 years old) I have just received a lorryload of tree shreddings to put around the base of the trees .I have been told to pray around the base of the trees before i put the "mulch" around .Can canyone tell me what to use as i have a gallon of roundup but i am not sure if this is good to use or will it harm the trees.Maybe there is something out there that would be better to use. Thanks in advance jimmy |

Roundup should be OK as long as pick an overcast, warm, preferably humid day to put it on. Put it on in sunshine and it could dry too quickly and not do the job so well, put it on when It's cold will cause similar problems, weeds should be in active growth. Give it a couple of days to week to let the roundup into the system before putting on your shreddings.
Is the source of your shreddings safe, i.e. not from fungused or diseased trees? Otherwise praying might be your other option

| thanks for that Liparis. The shreddings came from a tree surgeon .I suppose that could be good or bad.I might put down some membrane also. This might prevent future weeds thanks again |
