Hi,

I was at a wedding in Kilashee house in Naas a few weeks ago, they have a really nice herb garden just outside one of the function rooms. Anyway there was a really attractive plant in the middle of the patch which I didn't recognise, it looked like an onion gone to seed but the seed head was much bigger, brobably bigger than a tennis ball and was purple or lilac in colour. Anyone know what it was? Sorry I didn't have the camera handy.

Sounds like an ornamental onion or Allium to me, crosseyedsheep

Those Allium flower heads are appox 3 inches across.
You could have seen Allium christophii which has a lavender coloured flower head up to 1 ft across.
