A few years ago I picked up a program called punch pro garden design for 15euro in harvy normans. It was reasonably easy to use provided your garden isn't to complicated. (great if your garden is flat) I looked at there website and they don't seem to have that exact one anymore but they have similar ones. I would recommend getting one of the cheapest ones and see if you like it, as you can always upgrade to a better version I you like it.

A free download software is google sketchup. You can look at your plans from various perspectives in 3d view, you can download already created furniture, plants, trees etc or get fancy using the software. It takes some getting used to as its a pretty sophisticated product, almost like autocad for those who use computers to make architectural or woodworking plans.
