Bonsai leaves turning yellow

I was given a bonsai Chinese Elm in November. Five days ago the leaves turned yellow almost over night. Now all the leaves are falling off. Is it just deciduous (sheds and renews leaves annually) or is it dying? Any tips to revive it?

the Chinese elm should be evergreen or at least semi-evergreen (drop a few leaves) if it is kept indoors. Is yours inside toreilly? Sounds to me like it is in shock and dropping leaves. With bonsai this is often caused by allowing it to go bone dry before realizing, then watering it. It could have got a chill as well, open window or door letting in frosty gusts after heating has been on.

Thanks Blackbird. It must be in shock. I keep it inside and I though I was watering it enough. I was spraying it every day. The water just ran off it when I tried pouring water on it. Can't believe I am killing it already!! I'd there anything I can do to save it. How should I water it in Winter? Thanks a mill.

Water bonsai once a week by immersing the roots in a sink of tepid water. do it religiously every week once a week.

place in one position and do not move, they realy do not like any chages in light or heat so dont change room to room.

we put ours on a south facing window lately and it thinks it is spring !! lots of growth when it should be more dormant

Hi Blackbird & Michael196, my bonsai has recovered and now doing really well. Probably too well. I watered it as u said and kept it in a south facing room. Now it hasn't stopped growing!! About 3 inches in growth since I last posted. The new growth has only appeared on the outer nodes so there are no leaves throughout the tree, just the outside. Its mad looking, but I love it. I am just worried that something else is wrong with it. The leaves are very soft, not leathery as b4. But that's probably expected with new growth. Any thoughts?

Possible a feed issue now that the

watering is sorted. we add a

bonsai feed to the water that we are

immersing the bonsai in, that

should help the roots systems get

back going. ( forgot to mention that

originally ) this should help with the

leaves. Bonsai feed is available in

most GC , a 10 euro bottle does for

months.
