hi,i have a problem with my 3 cats, they are sharpening their claws on my new willow tree`s,i thought of smearing honey on the bark but dh pointed out that the wasps would be delighted with this, and i have thought of getting wire fencing to put round them,is there a product or deterrent i could buy?

Put a hoop of chicken wire netting around the trunk and support it with a few bamboo canes stuck through the netting into the ground. It worked for me.

I am pleased to hear that the chicken wire has stopped you sharpening your claws Sandra12.......

The wire sounds like the best solution. If you want a temporary one then you can use citrus oil on areas you don’t want the cats to scratch, they have a strong sense of smell and it puts them off. Some also put chile oil on,but that's just mean....

Cheers

Ian

......or you could buy those spiral rabbit guards made of hard plastic. You'll get them in any good garden centre......
