i popped into mr. middleton's yesterday, and they've stocked up on the bulbs again - i got forty snake's head fritillary bulbs (€3.99 for 20), 24 allium sphaerocephalon (€1.99 a dozen, i think), two foxtail lilies (the more expensive variety, they were sold out of the cheaper ones) and five bulbs whose name i think begins with 'orni' (they look kinda like a cross between foxtail lilies and lupins) for 99c each.

now we just have to find somewhere to squeeze them in...

You are starting in time medieval knievel. I love the frittilaria myself. Never came across the ornithogalum, but don't the unopened flower spikes look like lupins.

they didn't have a plant i was looking for, which i'd seen on an old gardener's world special (on UKTV style gardens) - veronicastrum. i dunno if it's a bulb, but the interesting bit looks like this:

Don't think it is a bulb. A perennial I'd say, so the best time to look for it in the gardencentres would be the summer as they usually bring in a lot of flowering perennials at that time. you never know someone on here may have a division of it to give to you, anyone anyone. lol
the old name for some forms of Hebe was veronica, these types had a similar flower to the plant you pictured, interesting.

Would you please put up a website address for Mr. Middletons. Fruitillaria are a great deal. Mine seem to have disappeared. Orange colour. Were wonky. Too much shade? Flopped and could have been carried off by the squirrels when they were over. Thanks.

hi another excellent mail order site for bulbs is www.peternyssen.com its probably a bit late for spring bulbs now but summer bulbs on sale from that start of december,well worth a look.
