When an abacus goes wrong, there's no one to blame but yourself. When a six year old computer keeps going wrong, a very unpleasant Billionaire is to blame. Reasoning? 'It's time you bought a new computer and made me even richer'. God rot his socks! _________________ Be humble, for you are made of earth

What?!
Cleaning - a woman's work is never done.
Went to see Santa turn on the Christmas lights in Belleek, last night. Hardly Blackpool, BUT the hotel opened for the event. It was great to see it full of folks. Santa had a grotto with elves (town trades-people) handing out little gifts to all the kids present. Lovely evening (nice food too!)

Today is 'World Soil Day' - who knew?!
Words of wisdom from Franklin D Roosevelt, 'The nation that destroys it's soil, destroys itself.'
Good stuff that soil. _________________ Be humble, for you are made of earth

He certainly was. Dave was reading recently that over the last 40-50 years the nutritional quality of our food has plummeted. We just keep taking and putting nothing back.
Old gardeners knew the value of feeding the soil. One once told me he valued my help in the garden in the best way possible. He told me 'ee you're worth your weight in 'oss muck'! _________________ Be humble, for you are made of earth

I don't remember him. I haven't listened to the radio at home for YEARS. Mainly because reception here is abysmal.
I do remember Clay Jones and have a fascinating book by Fred Loads. Both great gardeners.
I love Fred Loads' answer to the problem of honey fungus - move house! _________________ Be humble, for you are made of earth

I think it was Clay Jones. I remember being amused at the apt ness of the name and the remark. But you may be right, Margo. |

'The answer lies in the soil' was a regular line of a comedy show, closely linked with 'I make no bones about it, I'm looking for someone to love.' They were spoken by Kenneth Williams, in his slot as the character Arthur Fallowfield in either 'Round the Horne' or 'Beyond Our Ken', both starring Kenneth Horne, along with Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden and KW. Other punch lines were delivered by characters 'Cecil Snaith' and 'Hello! I'm Julian and this is my friend Sandy.' _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |

Oh, the nostalgia! The good old days of steam radio. I used to grab the transistor radio and disappear into my room so I could laugh my leg off at The Navy Lark without my little sisters annoying me. |

The last one was definitely Round the Horne. I remember listening to that as a child (and the Clitheroe Kid and two-way family favourites) and laughing out loud to Julian and Sandy and KW's characters such as J. Peasemould Gruntfuttock (that screwed the spellchecker!) and the Ballad of the Woggler's Moulie.
Mum worried that I found such innuendo so funny - I just loved the silly words , still do! Now I'll just go and mangle me worzles. _________________ Be humble, for you are made of earth
