Hello - looking for some ideas for rapidly growing ground cover for around a pond. The bank is steep (not boggy, can be very dry in summer) and hard to maintain so a plant (or plants) that is very low maintenance, and that would block weeds would be great. Colour would be great too. Any advice?

Hi Novice. Cotoneaster dammerii is a very quick growing ground cover. It has a small white flower in summer and red berries in autumn / winter. It copes quite well with dry soil.

Novice, the following plants cover all your requests...
Stachys "Silver Carpet"
Ajuga reptans "Atropurpurea"
Nepeta X mussinii
Santolinia chaecyparissus (or virens)
Thymus
Hypericum calycinum
Vinca Major (or minor)

No flower colour to speak of.....
Euonymus fortunei
Juniperus horizontalis (or squamata)

All these plants a relatively low maintenance.
The are all to a lesser or greater degree rapid growing.
You will still have to keep the bank weed free for the first few years after planting to aid establishment and closure.

Hope this helps.
