It looks like Rhododendron macabeanum but we will wait to see what Silversurfer says.

Agee with Greengage...Rhododendron sp...but would not like to say which one...there are several large leaves sp.
The R. Macabeanum I have seen and photographed have more veins per leaf.

It does look a bit likea loquat. But, as Silver surfer says about the Rhodo, I thought the loquat had more 'veiny' leaves?
Perhaps the stem can tell us more? Does that look like the Rhodo in question? I don't know what that is like.
Where was the photo taken?

I'll forgive you.
It reminds me of a plant I tried to grow from seeds my friends in Spain gave me. They call it a Nespero. I think they are related? Gorgeous fruit, similar to a persimmon.

They called it Nespero, that's why I have never been able to find it online! Shame we can't grow it here - well I can't, it is a lovely fruit and fresh off the tree beats supermarket every time.
