Back when coppicing was a regular woodland management technique coppicing of oak was commonplace. However the coppice cycle was about 50 years rather than the 8 years of hazel, willow, etc.
I'd be surprised if it did not work for a 10 year old tree.
Perhaps it best to wait and see, and follow the lead of the OPW. Did you see how close together the queen's tree and Obama's tree are planted? 🙄 |

If you want to know who it was said 'Oi think the answer lies in the soil', it was a comedy character called Arthur Fallowfield from an old Kenneth Horne radio show, either 'Beyond Our Ken' or 'Round The Horne', and played (I think) by Kenneth Williams. Other characters were Cecil Snaith, Julian & Sandy etc. _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |

But, just to show how easy it was to amuse us in those days, there were Peter Brough and Archie Andrews - if you please a radio VENTRILOQUIST, but we never saw his lips move. _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |

Oh, those were the days! The Navy Lark; Jimmy, the Clithero Kid; Jimmy Edwards and Matron in Whako!; The Glums. Radio comedy that left my sides sore. I have early memories of The Goons, too. What treasures. |

I didn't want to hijack this thread so I posted a comment on the thread 'I wouldn't have missed it for the world'. It was about Round the Horne and the Goon show. _________________ Be humble, for you are made of earth
