Hi,
I have Buzy-Lizzies and Petunias that I bought as plugs which I potted out in 8'' pots when they were fully mature (they were in full bloom).
All of a sudden the leaves started to die on both leaving bare stems with full blooms, which of course later died as the leaves were gone. I didn't spray anyything near the plants and the roots were prefectly intact when I dug up the plant.
Any pearls of wisdom would be appreciated.

| Hi rayd. This leaf loss is caused by shock of some kind I reckon. In my own case this has happened before due to forgetting to water at one stage then as the Buzy-Lizzies started to wilt, I flooded them too much with water. A famine followed by a feast. My bedding got a shock I think and lost the leaves just like yours with flowers remaining for a while. |

| Thinking shock here myself, possibly from the transplant. So a water or soil shock is my guess. What type of growing medium did you transplant into rayd? |

Hi Dr Sunny & Sandra,
Thank you for your prompt replies. The medium was a combination of soil and compost but I think you both hit the nail on the head, especially in light of the wet summer we've had.
Thanks again |

That could be it alright.
Avoid the option of just using soil direct from your garden to fill your containers.
It may harbour pests, plus it tends to compact to a hard mass within the container after repeated watering. _________________ If you benefited from irishgardeners.com, please link to us or tell others, so that the site can grow and benefit more gardeners.
