I saw another post explaining the differences between the different seeds but the following suggestion was made to me. An inlaw(farmer) is going to prepare, drain and seed my lawn which is large(> 1 acre). He said that I'm better using the same seed that they use for agricultural purposes as it has less tendency for weeds and looks the very same. Is this correct? I only want to do this job once correctly. I dont want to be looking at my lawn in a few years time and regret anything. Also, I've young kids who'll be playing on it. I want a really ncie lawn withminimum of care:). Also, will his agricultural seed spreading equipment be able to spread lawn seed? I think he commented that it mightn't be suitable?

If it is agricultural seed don't expect to be able to mow it tight and still keep a green look. Closely mown I would expect it to look white like a recently cut silage field. It will be a tougher lawn but will be quite stemmy and not too nice for kids to roll around on.

Sow agricultural seed and you will not have a lawn, plain and simple. You will have instead a closely mown field. Harder on the old lawn mower as well. I would avoid.
