Well, not new, but new to us!
We're planning a house move (currently awaiting mortgage decision - gulp!) and the place we are hoping to buy is an older bungalow with around 2 acres of mature gardens.
In the gardens there is a derelict cottage (but not TOO derelict - think 'great workshop ) a 2 bay hayshed, gardens are divided into about 5 different sections.
I got a full 2 hour tour the first time we went to view by the current owners, & was shown the largest holly tree, eucalyptus, plum, pear & apple trees, raspberries, herbs all over & dotted in unlikely places, to name but a few! It's also bordered on 2 sides by a small conifer forest, and fields on the other 2 sides.

I'm planning on turning a lawn area near to the derelict over to raised veggie beds & pop in a greenhouse or polytunnel too - we are really going to be taking on SO much work with this place, but you know, it just felt 'right'.

Now, just along the road is a 3 acre bog plot - we're going to look at maybe hand cutting a small section for fuel, and trying blueberries too - what else can I do with it? Any ideas?

Near to the hayshed, we're looking to turn over to livestock - definitely chickens & maybe a couple of goats or sheep - still undecided there.

I can't wait to move & then I shall be boring you all absolutely senseless with piccies of different areas & LOTS of pix for identification purposes too!

Anyway, I jusy thought I'd warn you all of our impending project - fingers crossed - we should know for sure later this week.
I've a feeling I shall need a HUGE diary, to plan my next few years VERY carefully!

fingers crossed for you JulieSh. Can't wait to see pics if it goes ahead. You may have to think about providing future shelter if and when that conifer forest is cut

Dr Sunny - Willows for weaving would be a nice idea - I'd rule out the fuel side of it though - peat turf smells so nice, and on a personal note, I think that gentle hand cutting is a lot nicer to the land than machine cutting too.

Lisa - The gardens have a good line of mature trees just inside the boundaries, and as far as I can make out, the cutting is done in a 'thinning' process, as it was planted as part of the EU directive to maintain Irelands forestry reserves. At least, I think!

I'm just playing the waiting game this week - and it's SO frustrating! So many plans, so many ideas, so much work - but I have absolutely everything crossed.
If all goes well, my camera is going to have a burn-out in a few weeks
