Hi all. I hope someone can help me. I really know next to nothing about gardening and I'd like to buy a present of a plant for a friend for his city centre office. The good news is that his office does get lots of light but the bad news is that he keeps a window permanently open and it is decidedly chilly in there. Can you think of any plants that might survive? Now if there were any that might also produce red and white flowers too (team colours) I'd really earn some serious brownie points, but this is certainly not essential. Thanks in advance for any help.

Aspidistra elatior = Cast iron plant, the name says it all. You could write Ronaldo or Gerrard along the leaf with a marker, but I don't think the plant would like it.
Also any ivy or fern would be quite alright. _________________ How to post pics on the forum.

Got a peace lily that does pretty good in those conditions. I think it is the changes in temp which is the worst, like if the heating is on in your friends office and he comes to work in the morning opening the window to let a gust of cold air in. The shock gets them i think, like you jumping into a cold shower.

Thanks Birdie - nope, it's pretty much always arctic in there, so I'll keep your suggestion in mind - and they're so pretty too.
