 Has anyone got any explanation to why the main stem of my tomato plant has grown into two stems and back again into one, and will this affect the fruit production. this has happened to both of my indoor plants. Thank you in advance.

some of mine have turned that way but have fruit on them and others just havent bothered doing anything. mine also look really, really dead they are so crinkled up but they have fruit so im not worried

Not too bad so, i thought it was just my plants, i also have plenty of fruit, so that cant be bad, but we must be doing something wrong.

From the picture it appears to be two branches of the tomato which have merged due to being in constant direct contact with each other. A similar effect could occur in youth with yourself if you bound two fingers together with for instance band-aids. Given enough time eventually the skin on the fingers would start to mesh together.
The plant looks healthy otherwise hawthorn. |

my garden book i was given says that the leaves may be all crinkled and green but it is not a disease or anything to worry about and now that they have fruit i dont care. it happens every year to my toms but i always get fruit just not on the plant. they have to be ripened in the dark for some reason or other never on the plants...

Just a thought----the only other time this happened to my toms was when i lived in Greece----my water then was also from my own well as is the case here.In both cases the water was very hard.Probably talking rubbish  |

I wouldn't say your talking rubbish, you could have a point there. As this has happened to both of the indoor plants i have grown, and its not an isolated incident, it indicates to something that has been done to both plants, so ya could be right there CORFIOT. I was kinda Half thinking that it might have to do with their early stage of life, did i do something wrong at the beginning, Did i give them too much heat, or not enough, or was it to cold, "JESUS" its like looking after kids. I have Ten RED ALERTS (bush type tomatoes) growing in pots outside and I'm minding them like babies, had to bring them in the other night with the bad weather...!! checking them every day then, "leaf by leaf" to make sure there's no aphids, man this tomato growing is hard work.

Might be hard work---but don't they taste great.Last tears crop of toms,potatoes,runner beans,parsnip were a disaster with the brilliant summer we had  |
