Hi,

I'll preface this by saying, I know I don't have a clue!

We have two maple trees in our front garden, one is 2 years old, the other 1 year old.

The older tree has loads of little black flies on it and some weird flower type buds growing.

The younger tree has no flies and only has leaves.

Any ideas?

The circled areas look like the flowers. the older tree would be producing better due to maturity. The black flies are more than likely attracted by the scent of the flowers.

That's interesting! I didn't know they would produce flowers! LOL
