Any time I am nervous about spraying and damaging near by plants( if that id your concern) I put a bucket over the near by plant and gently spray around it and leave the bucket there for 10 secs after spraying to let it settle. It does thr trick for me.
Alternatively I sometimes "paint" the killer onto weeds by brush- this prevents spread through the air from a sprayer... |

I agree with the bucket idea for protection and, to make the job easier for yourself, if you can lay your hands on a few 2 or 5-litre clear plastic 'bottles' and some stiff wire, you can cut the bottoms off and put one over each plant - better leave the screw caps on - with a length of wire to hold them upright and you can then spray away to your heart's content. I've always got a couple of dozen for use as cloches outside as I have neither tunnel or greenhouse. _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |

I fully agree with the last post. Pulling out by hand isn't that arduous on a normal domestic scale but our friend had already bought the stuff so we were down to the practical side. Hand pulled weeds, when all's said and done, represent nutrition that's been taken from the soil, so they all go in my compost. Any that survive are easy to deal with but, of course, those affected by weed killer can't be disposed of this way. _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |
