Hi
I have one plant of this shrub. I bought it at a garden centre near Kilcock that closed down a couple of years ago.The guy told me the name of the plant but there was no label. It is currently 1.5m tall and in full blossom. Leaves are a lovely matt bronze colour.

Amelanchier Lamarkii. Also known as Juneberry, for reasons that will become obvious in June! A lovely shrub or small tree, depending on how you grow it.
It will do much better without competition from the grass around its base.

There's a reason you're called Good Guy! Yes, the grass is there on a temporary basis!!
Thanks for the reply- I would love to get some more of it. The garden centre was closing that week and the owner just suggested I take one. I remember that he said that it was the favourite plant of a friend of his, and that she wanted to be buried under a stand of it (a fairly convincing recommendation for a plant I think)..
Are you suggesting that if I keep a leader stem and prune appropriately I could grow it as a tree?

Yes, Baabamaal, you could do that. See:

You will find this link will give you loads of advice about the Amelanchier. I remember seeing a whole stand if it at a motorway roundabout in Holland, once. It blew me away.
