Total disaster - but only tried once. Butternut squash - patchy so not pursued after a couple of attempts. _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |

Ours took ages to start rooting, well over a month. It was about 3 months when we felt that the roots were strong and long enough to plant. I planted it in the Polytunnel and it had loads of leaves and they climbed up the frame that had been made for it. When we dug it up there was one and it was half the size of the original potato that we had rooted. End result it was horrible. |

I didn't realise I had kept a cutting on Sweet Potatoes but found it this morning.
Try http://www.tropicalpermaculture.com/growing-sweet-potatoes.html. According to that it's difficult to stop them taking over but ..... _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |

I am waiting on some from Marshalls and they are supposed to be delivered in April. That's an intersting experiment where the guy develops the shoots on a sweet potato in a jar of water. I will try that next year if I can grow some of my own but it might be worth a try with a part of one bought in the supermarket. I am going to try one in the polytunnel and the rest outside and will let you know how I get on. |
