A kindly forum member gave me some oca last year. I grew six plants in a raised bed, which produced about a cubic metre of tubers, once I'd got rid of damaged and tiny ones. Each plant easily filled 4' square.
They were a thoroughly easy crop. No pests, and when harvesting, they were all in the top few inches of soil. I am going to replant, but only two or three plants this year, as space is limited.
I have tried roasting them with rosemary and garlic, which is much like new potatoes, except that the inside is softer. Steaming makes a lovely mash: tastes like a cross between spuds, carrot and swede turnip.
If anybody wants a few to try, pm me your address and I will send you a few, in the spirit of "paying it forward". |

You are very welcome. Don't worry about postage, just make a donation to charity, and pass some tubers on, the same as I did. You will need to PM me your address though...
I miscalculated. I don't have a cubic metre, but 3 cubic feet. I am storing them in greengrocers boxes. Some are sprouting a bit, but those rub off easily, and I haven't died or got sick yet. . |

Hi, I'm trying to plant a kinda of perma-raised-bed. I'd like to know from your experience if you would suggest including oca, or not..... and if anybody would know of good or bad companion-planting for oca (new crop to me)
thanks
