Hello there. New member here. I have just got an allotment and I would like to learn how to grow vegetables to feed my family. My aim is to grow grow fresh produce, organic if I can. Only an allotment so I don't have huge space but I have been told an allotment can be plenty big. Hope to learn from you experts here. |

Firstly, welcome along.
Secondly, stay a while.
Thirdly, there are no experts here only chancers and spoofers (see two prime examples above) unfortunately more will be along shortly!
Finally, hurry up as you have loads to do if you want to get going for this year unless of course you have made a start already.
I'm the only sane one here you know. _________________ “It’s my field. It’s my child. I nursed it. I nourished it. I saw to its every want. I dug the rocks out of it with my bare hands and I made a living thing of it!”

Thank you all for the welcome. Everyone will know more than me, even spoofers and chancers so all help very welcome. I m lucky to have the allotment I think. Other gardeners will be close at hand for advice and sharing.
@Tagwex I have not started much but I have drawn up a plan and have bought some seeds based on that. |

Have you an understanding of crop rotation and companion planting to maximise the area of your plot and keeping pests/diseases at bay? _________________ “It’s my field. It’s my child. I nursed it. If you have a couple of acres worry about crop rotation, if its only a couple of metres, I would nt be too bothered, Im sure the eel worms will be able to move that far and cockchafers, Carrot root fly wont mine flying low over the ground to source your carrots. In a small garden just dont grow certain crops for a season that MIGHT help but no guarantee depends on what the neighbours get up too,As an example no point in spraying the lawn for dandelions if the field beside you is covered in them. see were off already not agreeing but there is no right or wrong way. |

I didn't make what I meant to say very clear. I didn't mean yearly rotation, why would I on an allotment? I meant quick growing crops in amongst the slow growing ones to maximise the ground available. _________________ “It’s my field. It’s my child. I nursed it. I nourished it. I saw to its every want.
