Wow and double wow! I expect Errigal and Muckish are looking similar but I can't see them from here. I'd have to drive up out of the valley to get a view. My daughter's kitchen looks, from Letterkenny, right the way across NW Donegal towards them. It's hard to do the dishes in her house without getting distracted by the view! |

I am so lucky after living in towns all my life. If I look to the right of Croagh Patrick I can see the Nephin Mountains. The Partry Mountains to the left and if I turn around the Plains of Mayo. Sheer heaven |

It appears I have a thank you to make KS. When I saw that word acrophobia I must confess that I had to look it up to see what it meant. I had always thought that vertigo was a fear of heights, apparently it is do with the spinning sensation one feels when either looking down from a height or from looking up at something very tall. Learn something new every day. Anyways, we toddled off to a quiz last night for some young one looking to raise funds to go on a tall ship journey and to be an assistant/helper to somebody disabled on the boat. After 10 rounds it ends up a two team draw on 94/100 so into the tie break of five questions, one of which was 'what is acrophobia the fear of'? I couldn't believe my luck. 4-2 to us and four bottles of wine. Thanks. _________________ “It’s my field. It’s my child. I nursed it. I nourished it. I saw to its every want. Felt quite chuffed today. First bit of sunshine for ages. I'd dug a clump of day lilies from MIL garden so got them re-planted (don't know what colour it is) pruned some roses and had a jolly good tidy up in one of the beds. Hopefully we'll get some more sunshine tomorrow. |

And I thought acrophobia was a makey-up word, to do with a fear of propping up roofs/lintels etc! Ya live 'n learn, on here! |

Morning all. Absolutely filthy weather here so no outside gardening here.
We really was lucky yesterday. Our son went down to the Polytunnel only to find the wind had been so strong the centre arch in the tunnel had separated in the middle. Good job it didn't pierce the plastic. Brute force and ignorance we got it back together again. One scary moment..
Got my broad beans and peas planted in there so at least I've made a start. |

Maths lesson? Isn't an acro a yoke for propping things up (RSJs, while building archways etc.).
Hence: acrophobia. Geddit?
Would you like a lesson in Punnish, Tagrex? |

Pretty rotten here, too. I might do some repotting in the shed and tidy up out there as well.
Enjoy your fireplace ripping-out, MK. Mucky job, but very satisfying in the end, I've found. I've done a few, over the years. The last one (ever!) was early 2012, after the sitting room ceiling came down as the result of a frozen down-pipe. A soaking in sewage necessitated a total refurbishment of our sitting room and I decided to have a new fireplace and built-in stove fitted. I have to say I'm very pleased with the results. |

aha, i read that at first that removing the fireplace caused the damage.
we're taking out the (very nondescript) 70s fireplace to get a stove in. |
