Hello gardners,

I am in need of some advie in relation to my lawn. I am very new to gardening and have made a huge blunder. I have a new house and the law had a lot of weeds. In my enthusiasm i overdid my spraying with roundup and now have a patchy green and yellow lawn. Is there anything i can do to salvage this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Hi Mickey,

Welcome to Irish gardening.

Firstly don't panic, things probably aren't as bad as they seem. The active ingredient in roundup doesn't do any lasting damage to soil etc, If there isn't a very large area you could scratch the surface of the brown patches with a garden rake and reseed you won't even notice the damage in a Month or so. If you can post some pics it could help ensure that we're giving you correct advice.

Most new lawns will have weeds, a lot of them are tillage weeds which dissappear with mowing once the grass gets established, even perennial weeds like docs eventually dissappear as they are continually mowed as they eventually use up their food store in the root trying to re grow.

mikey 40, I agree with crosseyedsheep raking, reseeding, and posting of pics.
Fertilising the lawn and mowing twice a week will also help to thicken the grass hopefully making the burnt areas look better.
