I have half a 20kg bag full of Oca tubers (probably a couple of hundred ) that I have decided to give away. My wife doesn't like the taste (kind of like a lemony potato taste) though I love it but as there are two of us (adults) there is no point in me growing it again.

The tubers were quite hard to get hold of so it would break my heart to throw them away.
They are best suited for growing in coastal areas as any decent frost will wipe out the crop if it hits before around November, after that its actually favourable.
They are very easy to grow, slugs are not interested and are very very easy to propagate, even sticking the stalk into the ground from a growing one will root too and grow tubers itself.
I'm in Loughlinstown, very close to the Cherrywood exit 16 on the M50, i could post also if postage costs are covered.
They grow quite big and should be planted about a foot apart roughly.
Let me know how much you would like either over PM or here and we'll arrange collection over PM.
April is a good time to plant them as the last frosts should be pretty much gone by now at least in coastal parts.

Hello sneachta,
Is it too late to ask for any? They look amazing! How much ground did you dedicate to these. Btw I live in the south, so that might be a problem.

Hi Simon soorry to say they are all gone now. You could try the Real Seed Company which have some left if you want to give them a try.

Sneachta,
Thanks again for the OCA tubers.
As promised I will keep you updated with pic's. Well this week I planted 6 in the sandy soils @ my summer abode in Portrane. I also planted 32 tubers in the raised bed at home that has been emptied of Colleen first early spuds this week. I have another raised bed of Coleen's in Portrane which is half gone and I will plant another 32 tubers there next week. The rest of the tubers will go into the sand in Portrane.
The pics are of the raised bed at home. As you see the tubers have got long delicate leggy sprouts since you gave them to me in April. I had to be careful separating them and planting so as not to break the sprouts. I am using the same system that I use for spuds, one tuber per square foot 3" deep at the bottom of a hole which I back fill as the stalks grow i.e. earthing-up in reverse (earthing down?).

My ones are 18" high and 2' wide. Only had room for 6, and gave the rest to Nenagh community garden.

I got tubers from Klaus L this spring I'm growing them up a trellis along with sweetpea. No flowers yet, though. I've never eaten them but I'll report back when I do.

I'm surprised to hear that you are growing them up a trellis? Is that what Klaus Laitenberger recommends ?
My experience with them was that they are quite bushy, then as they reach about 30-40cm high they flop over, especially after rain from their own weight.
Flowers were few and far between, I recall some very late in Autumn (Sept/October) .
I really enjoyed the lemony taste from them, however the boss didn't like them (and she does most of the cooking) so that was that.
