| Nice pictures that really show off the gardens well. Is that blue flowered plant a californian lilac in the top two garden photos. I have a small ground cover californian lilac. It has the same blue but is much smaller. |

I like the fork in the lawn created by the centre bed. It adds intrest to the garden. It makes me want to take a walk down the lawn to see what is at the bottom. Oh and the blue plant is really striking.  |

Its a Ceonothus , also called Californian lilac . Its a very striking plant in the spring . Unless you want it to grow this big , prune it after flowering as it generally does not like to be pruned hard , ie. cutting into the brown wood .

| Thanks for that Bugs. I will look out for it the next time Im in the garden center. I presume it likes sun being a CALIFORNIAN lilac. |

this is my phallic garden , there is a large circular piece of granite bolted onto the wall of the house (not in picture) . The stone is buried into the ground 3 feet .
About 10 years ago there was a programme on BBc about building the pyramids and the technology they used . I had seem this stone in an old farmyard in Brittas Co Dublin . Using only ropes and homemade pulleys my son who was 12 at the time lifted this baby into the trailer and brought it home.
At the house we dug the hole first and backed the trailer over it and with gentle persuasion ( heavy crowbar ) got it into the hole .

I hope your son didnt ask you what a phallic garden was, after all the lifting I would be too pooped to launch into a "birds and bees" story. |

The standing stone looks great bugs.
When I am positioning a stone such as this I usually put 33% of the below ground level.
This ensures that the stone / rock will not move and gives an improved visual image.
They appear as if they have been there forever.
