I have planted cabbage, broccoli and lettuce in my raised bed last Wednesday and they still haven't come up.I have planted lettuce seeds indoors and they are already growing.Whats wrong here?I am thinking it is temperature difference but your opinions are welcome.
Thanks very much. _________________ Edlyn12

Patience Edlyn12 patience. It could be three weeks before the cabbage and broccoli germinate. A little water each day and you will be rewarded in a fortnight or so. Lettuce germinates much quicker. _________________ “It’s my field. It’s my child. I nursed it. I nourished it. I saw to its every want. Aye, lettuce is quicker, but I reckon than the main problem at the moment is dryness. If the seeds are not moist, they will sit there and wait. Is there a way you could water the seeds in the early morning, and also late at night, perhaps covering them with fleece, shade netting, or even a bit of old corrugated iron raised above them, to lessen evaporation by shading the soil? They won't need sunlight until they have leaves. |

My soil is really moist as I said before the lettuce inside is already germinated so it must be temperature difference. The soil is kind of rocky but there is no rocks obstructing the seedlings. |

Edlyn12, the brassicas take longer to germinate, just be patient. There is no way that they will germinate in less than a week. _________________ “It’s my field. It’s my child. I nursed it.
