I was in a park in Dublin at the end of March. All of the deciduous (sheds and renews leaves annually) trees are bare but there were some evergreens brightening up the walkways. Does anyone know what they are please?

Cheers

Hi GPI.

The leaves are silvery underneath like the holm oak

The leave shape looks shorter though, maybe it's a different variety. The info says that they are large trees, maybe the council keep them pruned well back.

Cheers

They are quite slow growing, so it may be a while before the council get out the clippers. Wink

Is the park St. Annes in Raheny?

It used to be owned by the Guinness family and there is Holm Oak
planted in the park and also in the surrounding roads that were formally part of the original estate.

Hi Rach

The park is in Ringsend, It looks like it was always owned by the council. It has been upgraded recently with all weather pitches and a play area. They worked around the trees though thankfully!

The St Annes park sounds interesting, maybe the Holm oak was a common choice of tree.

Cheers

St. Anne's park is really lovely but i just heard today that the main water course has been polluted and all the wild life such as eels, fish etc are dying off.
Out of interest, which park in Ringsend is this?

Funny - When I saw that picture I also thought it might be St Anne's park
but I do know the park in Ringsend you have shown.

I have good memories of St Anne's park - cross country running on
Tuesday mornings (our school adjoined the grounds). It's a great
park. I must revisit out of nostalgia (and with a keener eye for trees
and nature in my 40s /dotage Smile !)
