any recommendations about what to do with this?
i pulled up some naturalised seedlings at the invitation of a garden owner in west cork yesterday, and want to know what it can be used for - can it be grown into hedge/used as specimen tree, etc., and how well would it do in dublin - i believe it may not be fully hardy.

Had it before, frost tender Im afraid. A hard winter frost would usually blacken the leaves quite a bit. I think its main down point is that it is evergreen, so the frost has leaves to damage that time of year, but in saying that it is beautiful when in all white bloom followed by the black berries. medieval knievel,I would encourage you to grow it as a specimen more than a hedge. As a hedge, a hard frost one winter could leave you wide open.  |

It seems to grow well in the shelter of woodland down here, but West Cork is moister and milder than Dublin. Maybe give your seedlings a semi-shaded, sheltered corner and see how they do.
Like cooler says, not a good idea as hedging.
