hi again great site keep up the good work .
ok have recently planted some willow and it seems rabbits are nibbling at some of them and breaking off some stems. No real damage as yet .
Now i have some ASH, BEECH, BIRCH,MAPLE ,ROWAN,WALNUT , 45 plants in all ,about 1-2 ft tall to plant , Will rabbits attack them as well ?
Or should i sow them in a protected area ( e.g fenced off )for a few years and them transplant them.
Another question is ,should i clear my ground ( picts in previous post ) with machine and start fresh. Am hoping to plant a woodland type setting ,with native wildflowers ,ferns, azelas , and so on.Also anywhere i can buy bog orchids think there are lovely. Sorry to rant so long ,know nothing about what i am trying to do ,so hope you all can help me out
thank you

On the Bog orchids, it would be worth asking a real orchid fan known as Liparis.
I have sent the member a link to this post to see if they can help you.

The rabbits will nibble at your young trees, so fence them off, see here...Rabbit protection fence.
or else place individual plastic or wire netting rabbit guards around each young tree. These are usually 2ft high, so may be too big for your young trees, go for the fence instead.

Hi spider

Rabbits eat anything if they are hungry enough! They are probably nibbling your willow for the aspirin!? Maybe not.......There are some shrubs that they tend to steer clear of because of factors such as thorns, spines, prickles or unappetising smells of tastes. There is no guarantee that they will leave these plants alone but they do show a degree of resistance.

Shrubs that rabbits won’t eat (hopefully)

Aucuba japonica.
Buddleia davidi.
Ceanothus.
Daphne mezereum
Eleagnus, Euonymus
Hydrangea.
Kalmia latifolia
Oleria
Ornamental and edible currants
Philadelphus
Skimmia
Snowberry
Tree paeony.
Viburnum opulus and V. tinus
