| I want to lay a new lawn. Its a very small area approx. 15sq metres. As it is North facing I thought a rolled out lawn has more chances of success than seed. Is there somewhere I can buy a small amount of lawn. Anyone know if and when B&Q Liffey Valley gets it in? Or if you would recommend seed. Any advice would be welcome. I have levelled the ground with 2 inches of topsoil. Thanks. [/u] |

| B&Q sell it for about €3.60 sq yard but you have to pick it up yourself. Thats about €60 for your lawn area. I think they get it in every second day. How much deep was your topsoil was on your lawn before you spread the2 inches. 6 inches will be needed to grow well especially in a north facing area. |

| Thanks for that. I think the soil before might have been deep enough, although it was in terrible condition. Full of stones from the redevelopment of the house. I suppose I would need to get to B&Q early enough in the morning to getvthe best stuff. |

But will it be the first day or the second day. 
Hello toreilly, I don't want to put you off turf grass if you have your heart set on it, but I think seed would be a better option for you. This is because you will find it very hard to find an Irish supplier of a shade tolerant roll out turf for your north facing area. You will though be able to find shade tolerant grass seed much easier to track down.
Shade will cause regular grass to go patchy, you have a better chance with shade seed. Click on the " Irish Lawns and grass care" link at the top of the page which will present you with a list of topics, have a look at the sticky on sowing a lawn from seed for all you need to know. |

I would not have a recommendation of one over the other.
That seed type should suit you the finest if you get 700-800 grammes, and follow the sowing instructions. |
