If you're growing in open ground, in traditional allotment style rows, you could use it for the paths. I've used it in raised beds, and it's a pain. You have to punch holes in it for the veggies to grow through. This makes successional cropping very difficult, and you have to throw it away at the end of the season as it's ruined. I stick to hoeing and hand weeding. |

The usual way is to punch holes true it and plant the vegetable in the holes. This will work easily with something like onions, where you plant individuals for harvesting. However, it's not practical for something like carrots where you plant much more than you'll finally harvest, thinning them as they grow.
Do you have a particularly bad weed problem? |
