Hello everyone,
I am a member of SSDP Ireland.
I am not here to promote SSDP, but one of our events.
Our chapter in UCC is organizing the first in our series of hemp-seminars and workshops that you are all very welcome to attend.
"Building with #IrishHemp" will take place in room Kane G2, Feb 20th from 6-8pm in UCC.
A facebook page for the event can be found here:
https://www.facebook.com/events/473484516096939/
Speakers to include:
Barry Caslin,
Bioenergy Researcher from Teagasc
http://www.teagasc.ie/publications/2010/862/862_hemp.pdf
Steve Allin,
Builder of hemp-homes and Author of 'Building with Hemp'
http://www.hempbuilding.com/book.shtml
and more to follow.
If you would like to contribute to our event you can mail our UCC chapter at
dars@uccsocieties.ie
If you are eligible to speak, the society may be able to cover transport and accommodation expenses.
If you are unable to attend our event you can still be a massive asset to our campaign. We are trying to popularize #IrishHemp with this hash-tag across social media. So far 10,000s of people have seen this and I ask you to help increase our capacity building by re-tweeting and sharing your favourite #IrishHemp products across Facebook and Twitter.
Thank you all and I hope you can join us in UCC.

Hi Greengage,
SSDP stands for Students for Sensible Drug Policy.
We currently have chapters in UCC, NUIG and Athlone IT.
www.ssdp.org/ireland
We are building with #IrishHemp
(we're not actually building with industrial hemp, just the hashtag on social media)
We aim to increase student lead capacity building around this hashtag trend to raise awareness of industrial hemp with a large audience. Our goal is to make #IrishHemp go viral. Please share and re-tweet your favourite #IrishHemp products!
For example, "Out of the 25,000 #IrishHemp products, my favorite #IrishHemp product are seeds. #IrishHemp seeds contain all Essential Fatty Acids that our bodies need but cannot produce"
or "Loosening restrictions on industrial #IrishHemp will provide green economic stimulus to all sectors including consumption"
This way, anyone who clicks on #IrishHemp hashtag on Facebook or Twitter will be redirected to all of the posts that share the common #IrishHemp hashtag. People who click on #IrishHemp on facebook or twitter will have access to a large range of #IrishHemp products increasing awareness about the demand for #IrishHemp products and allowing us the first chance to network together to bring #IrishHemp to a mainstream audience.
Hope to see some of you at our event in UCC on Feb 20th.

This is about industrial gardening on a national scale that has the potential to offer positive green economic stimulus to jobs and growth to all of our sectors. Unfortunately a lot of people seem to be confused about it. No wonder we're in the situation we're in.

To be fair, I don't think you explained yourself very well from the outset. Granted, if I had watched your links then maybe I would have an appreciation of what you are trying to get across. But the written part just didn't grab me enough to go that far.

What the OP describes is horticulture/agriculture so the post does have relevance to "gardening" (being the broad church that it is).
After all, hemp is a plant, Cannabis sativa.
Alas, this particular event starts too early for me. I'd be interested in hearing Barry Caslin speak; the presence of a semi-state researcher gives it legitimacy and should silence the detractors.

Isn't hemp used as an insulator in eco builds? Is the symposium being webcast or being recorded to be made available on your website?
Is this the same plant which is illegal to grow but okay to be in possession of or is some other member of the same family?

you need a licence to grow it in ireland; i think players do so, but the land must not be visible from a public road, and it must be male plants grown, as they have drastically lower levels of the active ingredients.
i once read that cannabis is 20 times as productive as wood crops for production of paper, on a crop per year basis. and supposedly the paper produced is of a higher quality.
