Hi guys,
I'm looking for some advice on what type of flowers I could grow out of the top of my stone pillars. I was thinking of something similar to Forget Me Nots. I've attached a photo of the top of one of the pillars to give you an idea. As you can see the plant would have to grow a good 9 inches to reach the outer edge of the pillar. The depth of the square hole is also 9 inches. Any ideas?
Many thanks!

I would suggest Aubretia which has purple flowers late spring/summer or snow in summer white flowers most of the summer. Even sempervivium would be great there and no maintenance or creeping rosemary, lots of things would do fine there.
have you thought about drainage in the pillar's hole?

mountainy man,
thanks so much for your suggestions. I love the shape and vibrancy of the Aubretia, would it be too late to plant seeds for this now? I read on another site that seeding is between May and September. Thanks.

Aubrieta is super cheap to buy in spring, I got a few little tubs at 2.50 each. I have two trays of campanula porscharskyrana (I think that's how you spell it!) seedlings and youre welcome to one if youre near kildare. They just have their first set of true leaves, and according to seedaholic they just need to overwinter in a cold frame/ window sill - I didn't think so many would germinate

Thanks so much for the advice and the kind offer Cherrysparkle, I'm not near Kildare though, I think I will possibly go with the Aubrieta, it looks fab.
