Some birds in my (west of Ireland) garden.



This red bird feeder is hung from a honeysuckle hedge (Lonicera nitidia).
Below it is a simple plastic bucket filled with water.
The birds line up along it and jostle as if they were at the bar of an overcrowded nightclub.
They use the leaves of the rhubarb as a walkway down into the bucket, this allows them to cool off by splashing water everywhere.

just one day of rain and the Sparrows are back , we have about 20 or so . The very dry spell meant they would not come out in the heat of the day , We also have the usual garden birds, Robins , Tits , a pair of Wrens and Irelands smallest bird the Goldcrest , Pidgeons , Magpies , Swallows , Starlings and Thrushes .

Some people think the garden is dead in winter. Far from it if you feed the wee birds. I have fourteen feeders offering peanuts, seeds and fats along with apples saved from my fruit trees for my visitors. So far this winter I have attracted 31 species of bird to my garden. Today I planted guelder rose, holly, elder, raspberry, crabapple, gooseberry and Blackcurrant. These additions to my garden will hopefully feed the birds for years and years when I am long gone.
