My Courgette's are nearly ready to start picking and I was thinking to have a go at frying the male flowers in batter = Fiori di Zucca Fritti. Has anyone tried this, any recipies without cheese filling out there???

I asked this on the Veg Growing forum and got no replies so I'll post again here.

I have tried them just lightly battered and fried but cant say i liked them very much.
Most of the recipes i have seen has cheese in them and i can't eat cheese, would love see some that didn't involve cheese also.

they do work better stuffed, but you don't have to use ricotta. Try fresh broad beans puréed with mint, crab and scallion, or even grated carrot and fresh coriander. Experiment! I've never tried it, but I think chopped nuts and pine nuts, with a few herbs and chopped tomato would work well. My favourite dipping sauces for stuffed squash flowers are good balsamic and olive oil viniagrette, and a Lebanese dip of light tahini mixed with yoghurt, lemon juice, and a bit of sugar, salt, and black pepper.

tippben you got me thinking,

What about using chopped / mashed courgettes as the base for the stuffing, like a dry Ratatouille using whatever is in the garden / greenhouse like onions, tomatoes, garlic, basil, oregano, etc.
