Lawn sand question

My garden at the back has lost grass and was all moss so i scraped off the moss and have soil that has no drainage and water comes up on cement.This happened even when grass was there

Anyway, I spiked it with a fork, can i add lawn sand sprinkled on top or has it to be dug in

I may make that area just gravel or chip bark, but want to have some drainage first

you need to solve your drainage problem first otherwise forget about grass.

The most important thing to do first is to sort out the drainage problem that you have. Then you can sort out other things.
