Hi,

I am starting a garden in my new place, and I am looking for ready made raised beds, preferable ordering on the internet and delivery at the door, I have searched some websites, but can't find anything.
Does anybody know a company that makes them?

Thanks

How about just getting some chunky timber ( think railway sleeper), and making some beds 8x4' in size?

We made our own this year with some wood from the hardware store.

There were instructions in a gardening magazine recently, a uk one. I'll see can I find them again. It didn't take us 20 minutes to make each, and you can make them exactly the size you want!

All we used was a jigsaw, pencil and ruler!

(and then it snowed)

lol

I apologise for the long post, but I'm starting all over again and I need to do it right this time. Rolling Eyes I've forgotten how much I enjoy gardening and between one thing and another I've managed to fall off track. I've always enjoyed visiting this site, and now am happy to be back.

My garden has been a disaster this year - it's been totally neglected. So I've decided to go the raised bed route as weeds and grass have taken over the flower bed areas.
I've some questions:
1) what stops the timber from rotting, and would a raised bed only last one season

2) what stops the weeds, grass, etc from growing up through the soil in the raised bed.

3) my garden boundary is that crap timber panels that slide down between concrete posts. There is a concrete panel of about 18inches that the timber panel sits on. If I build raised beds up past this concrete panel will the soil rot the boundary fence. I'd hate for the neighbours to have to look at damp lines on their side of the fence.

That's if for now. I have to start thinking about bulb planting next. Jeez, I love gardening... Very Happy Very Happy

If the wood is pressure treated timber (preservative chemicals pumped in) it will last for years outdoors, even non treated wood should last about two years. If you are not growing any food in the bed then you need not worry about possible chemicals in your food.

Kill the weeds and grass beneath the raised bed by spraying off or organically by solarising, enter solarization into the search box above and I am sure it will throw up the recently posted article on it. Of course new weeds can creep in from surrounding soil which you will have to pull.

Wet soil against your 'crap timber panels' Laughing will stain and start to rot them. Nothing that cant be solved by placing a strip of waterproof plastic between soil and wood panel. Be careful not to build the soil too high as it could cause the panel to buckle.
