|
|
Hi all I have a cherry blossom tree in our front garden for the past 7 years. its one of the smaller ones and only sits at about 7 ft tall at the min. every year its blooming that bit longer. most years you get about 3 weeks of bloom then the green leaf then the red and fall off.
this year is different. im wondering is the tree ok. the leaves are out since the last 2 weeks but it didnt blossom. there are about 20 random buds on there but nothing has come out yet and it normally blooms before the leaves appear. is this due to the recent cold weather. i thought it would have slowed growth and bloom but not the bloom altogether.
Description: |
this tree is like mine when bloomed and around the same size and shape but i didnt get to take a pic of the actual tree. no blossom at the minute just leaves |

Only last Sunday I was talking to my Supplier about that very problem and his Cherry is the same but he is not unduly worried about it....the Weather is effecting them and he expects the Blossoms to appear soon...

Very similar to mine, although mine is smaller. The leaves have only started to appear in the last few days, and no blossoms yet, although I spotted a couple of buds on it just today. It's definitely later than last year, everything seems to be!

It's the weather. Around us, there are mature P. cerasifera "pissardii nigra", and P. avium (wild cherry), as well as Blackthorn (P. spinosa). All of them have only been in any kind of flower for the past week or so, and are flowering poorly. Given day length, I'd expect that most will flower poorly and briefly, get their leaves out as soon as possible, and conserve energy for better flowering conditions next year. Even sterile cherries like yours are genetically geared to flower when insects are flying, which they haven't been at the right time of year, so from the plant's point of view, why waste the energy? Your tree is fine. Applying some potassium sulphate (potash) will do no harm though.

My Cherry Blossom trees not doing good either. neither have many leaves or blossoms. both are 10 years old and about 12 foot high. Neighbours tree is in full bloom so don't think it weather related.
