My mother gave me the seeds off a beautiful Oriental red poppy she has. When would be the right time to put them down now or wait till Spring also should I sow them in trays or sprinkle them right onto the ground I always get conflicting answers as to weather poppy seeds can be sown straight onto the ground or not. Would love to get this growing as full grown poppies are expensive in the garden centres. |

sow fresh seeed straight away, into a mix of compost and grit only scatter the seed ont op of the compost and lightly press down to ensure contact with mixture do not cover with compost, repeat do not cover with compost good luck. |

so it's not to late to plant them now and I will plant them outside too. I tried seeds before inside and misted them every couple of days they grew to seedlings then just withered thats why I'm protective of these seeds once bitten twice shy |

We've been spreading our poppy seeds around the front and back this time every year (for the last three years), and have had quite a good number come to flower. I've found of the ones I seeded in the shed that they didn't like being moved. |

Great I might sprinkle them outside so, initially had doubts putting them outside this time of year - weather, birds at them, or if I put them in the ground, me weeding them by accident if they were tiny Think I'll put them in a big pot outside and hope for the best. I bought a box of wild mixed seeds from Lidl last year and got two lovely wild red poppies out of that only blooming now, so there's hope for me yet. Love poppies |
