Any Weed Sprays on the Market that are safe to use around Family Pets.I have the usual poisonous ones but am reluctant to use them without having to resort to locking up the Dog for Days on end and the hand- weeding is getting to much for me........ Dave. |

Would this be suitable I wonder :
www.owk.ie
You just have to keep dogs away from the treated area until it is dry, which shouldn't be too difficult. |

I'm having trouble with that link....sorry if you are too, but the weedkiller is called Irish Organic Weed Killer....it's essentially acetic acid I think. |

Thanks Sive.I clicked onto the Site and was just about to begin reading it when "Norton" disabled it telling me that a malicious Web Site was trying to infect my Computer.Sounds kinda' strange but you've given me the Name and I'll follow it up.
Thanks for your help I'll let you know how I get on.
Dave. |

The plot thickens........Went onto "Organic Weed Killers" and a load of responses came up including "OWK.IE" yet under the heading was the following warning "This Site may harm your Computer" all the relevant Information was freely available on the other Sites, anyway tomorrow I'll see if my local supplier can oblige.
Has me puzzled..........???. |

That's what happened to me as well, so I went no further, but I have a bottle of the weed killer, so it does exist ! However I haven't had cause to use it yet, so can't specifically recommend it, but it sounds a lot more eco-friendly than the normal poisons....and it's Irish-made. |

Google Vineger as a weedkiller........lookign at Banners post, it would seem like Irish OWK is made of vineger.
I use vineger as a weedkiller and find it extremely good, but be careful it will destroy everything is not used correctly.
A gallon of distailed vineger will cost around €5 or there abouts. Can't remeber how much I paid for it. |

Banner...that is the very same weedkiller I mentioned....but in the handy ready-to-use version. It's an Irish product, so worth supporting if it does the job. |

Two options:
Option one: Glyphosate based weed killer (includes; Round up / Gallop / Rambo) If using Glyphosate keep pets away from treated area until weed killer has dried in (generally 24 hours)
Option 2: Irish organic Weed killer: acetic based (i.e. industrial vinegar) is a pet friendly and 100% natural option. Ive used all weed killers;
Roundup is the best, Gallop and Rambo are the same but lack a sticking agent
Irish Organic won't kill really persistent weeds like scutch grass |

Thanks for all the replies, Thankfully Scutch Grass is not one of my problems just your normal everyday little Weeds that spring up in Pebbled Drives and areas not subject to everyday Traffic nothing big or invasive but I like to keep a clean Ship which can be a bit of a chore when one has Wonkey Hips.
I was interested in the Vinegar Theory and pricewise it sounds very attractive so I'll purchase a Litre of both and see which does the trick as I have a large area to cover. Again a big Thank you to all concerned I'll keep you up to Date over the coming Weeks..........Dave. |

flame weeding won't kill roots, so perennial weeds will make a prompt return. |

I have dogs too and I use Pathclear Gun Season Long. It really works. However, I don't have too much weeds.
You can buy it in Homebase, Greenfingers, etc.
http://www.greenfingers.com/superstore/product.asp?dept_id=200343&pf_id=LS5972D&source=webgains&siteid=43437
Pathclear Gun Season Long is a long lasting weedkiller that has been specially formulated for use on paths and patios. It contains a Systemic weedkiller and contact weedkiller to kill off all manner of existing weeds, and residual weedkiller to prevent new weed seeds from germinating.
It works by killing the existing leaves and roots, and creating a barrier in the soil preventing new weeds from growing for up to 3 months. It's also effective against annual and perennial weeds, and has a handy pull and spray trigger to eliminate finger fatigue.
For use from April to September
3 litre spot treatment
Safe for children and pets to play on once dry
Contains glyphosate, oxadiazon and diflufenican
Always read the label and use pesticides safely. |

I'd be wary to any pathclear / residual weed killer.
They kill perfectly healthy soil. Soil is a limited an invaluable nature resource!
There is a new product on the market called 'Dab' Its a systemic and contact weed killer that you rub onto the weeds you want to kill.
Sounds clever and environmentally friendly but maybe a bit of a pain to use... |
