Ok first posting on here and as a garden Newbee I have following questions.
My garden was over grown with weeds I got a guy into clear it all and looks great but it now needs to be raked but as this is Ireland it's constantly raining.
1) is it possible to rake wet soil?
2) is there a right and wrong way to doing this
3) and is there a machine that could do it for me?
Im not being lazy my garden is 25 meters wide and 30 meters long, I just want to get it raked off and levelled so I can sow grass on whe lot.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Tom, I suppose all the questions hang on the first one.
I'll give you a quote from an article I wrote....

The right and wrong way to rake are dealt with in that article as well as numerous other stumbling blocks and tips.
There are raking machines out there such as the BLEC stone rake, but I have never seen them for hire in the regular hire outlets.
You may get one to come to your site going down the owner operator route, which in in essence is getting a landscape gardener in.
There may be quite a few will to do this for you, so it is worth giving a batch of them a call for a price.

One thing is to use a very large rake, one metre wide or so. It can be made from a piece of wood with large nails in it..
It may be quite some time before the ground is dry again this year. |
