OOPS!!. And that looks like a wood chisel as well.

Common building bricks can be cut using a lump hammer and a wide blade chisel normally called a bolster.
Nicks are made in both sides of the brick, then with a good sharp tap you can split the brick along the cuts.
This can take a bit of practise, so it is best to train on a few old bricks first.

But it looks to me that you have a larger building brick of the gravity stack style, which may require a machine for cutting it, such as a concrete saw commonly known as a consaw.
This is a noisy device which can be dangerous to use, but it will cut through the brick as if it were made of butter.
Many builders will have one of these machines. Are there any working near you that would oblige you by cutting the few bricks for you Jacqcat?

Despite a reported "building slump" we are surrounded by building projects, so I will try and seek someone out!

Thanks!
