Is it ok to resue old compost from annual pot plants or hanging baskets or best to place them in a compost heap? |

I personally feel it is better to start with fresh compost/soil...I just empty old compost on to the flowerbeds. |

I would remix it with new compost and add fertiliser, When you plant in the garden do you dig out the old soil and discard it. its only compost the worst that has happened is that it has dried out and used up all its nutrients or leeched them out if it was used in containers or hanging baskets. If its peat it has been lying in the gound for 10,000 years before extraction. A couple of weeks in a container is hardly going to destroy it. It only anchors the plants and holds nutrients in a soluable form which is taken up by plants. |

Old compost is fine to re use in the garden, but as greengage said; it will be lacking in any nutrients.
I would avoid using old compost for potting up, seedlings or sowing new seeds as old compost are harbor fungi and diseases that may harm young seedlings (especially in a warm greenhouse)
You can use it as a mulch if you have a lot of it. |

As said above, I wouldn't use old compost for for the likes of sowing new seeds as they may cause more damage than its worth. |
