I planted a new lawn at the beginning of September. I've just noticed that there are a lot of small docks sprouting, I suspect they came from seed. I was wondering, if I keep mowing the lawn and never allow the buggers to go to seed will they eventually dissappear for good?

A spray of Mortox 50 will sort that out.

Not to cut across you GarethAustin. But the lawn was just sown in september. I believe a selective weedkiller such as Mortox 50 may burn the grass. crosseyedsheep are there that many docks, would spot treatment be feasible?

I sprayed 3 times over the summer with round-up before I sowed the seed, but now I've got a lot of tiny docks sprouting at one end of the lawn I'm guessing from what I've read that if I ignore them and cut regularly then they will eventually disappear.

I'm going to have enough problems trying to eliminate "creeping buttercup" by spot treating. My back lawn has been taken over with this pest and I reckon the only way to eliminate it there is to spray rotovate and re-seed. It really is that bad.
