What am I doing wrong? I get them to germinate on kitchen paper, then put them in a tupperware box. I rinse them every day, strain off the excess water, and keep the box in a dark place. They always ferment, and have to be dumped! |

I have never tried growing mung bean sprouts but I've had a lot of success with germinating seeds in kitchen paper. It sounds like the kitchen paper is too wet. Too much water and they'll rot. You need the paper just to be lightly damp. If it feels cold and clammy then it's too wet. What I usually do is wet one piece of paper lightly then put it against another dry piece of paper which will soak up excess water from the first one. Put your seeds in/on the two pieces together and hopefully it should work.
Alternatively use a brand new J-cloth which is easier not to get too wet. |

Hi Tippben,
mine are on the window ledge doing fine, rinse them twice a day morning and night i use a purpose made handy jar with a mesh lid and tilted at an angle, always works well for me with a range of beans, mung being the easiest.

Cheers Ian. We have no credit card to buy one of those, but we can easily improvise. It says that it's Dimensions LxWxH (mm): 130x135x130. How much seed do you put in at a time? |
