| Hi everyone im going planting some Broadleaf Trees (Beech,Birch etc.) was wondering what fertlizer should i put in during planting & what should i use afterwards if any? |

| Well for the birch I believe you should include lots of compost as it requires a soil which can hold a bit of water. Not boggy, but not rapid draining either. |

I would avoid using a granular tree fertiliser when first planting as they can burn the new roots if applied too heavily or are poorly incorparated into the mix. Instead I have always used a mix of 1/2 topsoil from the top of the hole you dug mixed with 1/2 well rotted garden compost or shop bought peat compost. You could of course also add a shake of slow release fertiliser such as osmacote or pelleted chicken manure.
Good luck, birch and beech are nice.
