Hello SpicyNoodle. Looks to be a lilly, possibly Turkish. I think I may do some research and get back to you.

Cooler you might be on the right track.
Have look at this turk's cap lilly (monadelphum var armenum).
SpicyNoodle, is it anything like the plant that bloomed in your mothers garden?

Hello GPI, the flowers on my moms plant where allot paler in colour and seemed to be on one stalk similar to daffodils and greenish brown in colour. They were not so deep, quite flat towards the center (see bottom right of picture). I knew I took more than one picture but I can't find them, I will keep looking.

Hi there. I am not sure if your mystery has been solved. Is there any chance its a dog's tooth violet also known I think as a Pagoda violet? I think I saw these in a Bakker catelogue. Whatever it is, its beautiful.
